AMATOU GORGE

Climbing in Amatou bay takes place in a small canyon leading to the sea. We call it Amatou according to the name of the bay. It is a continuation of the huge Gorge of Xerokampos, which is the largest canyon in this area. 

Climbing routes are done on two opposite crags: Cave on the north-east side and Lungs on south-west side. Because of this there is almost always some part of the crag in shade or in sun (in winter). 

The sea is about 150 meters far from there, so it is very easy to combine climbing with swimming during a warm day.  Quality of rock is very good, the material is not sharp in most pitches. The routes are mostly overhanging. The Cave offers easier routes, however the Lungs are for more experienced climbers. Length of the routes is up to 20 meters.
